Bats and Bats

Bats and Bats

Novice cricketers
from far and near
flock the ground
with bats in their hands,
and dreams in their hearts!
They hit tennis balls today
preparing for the red cherry.
Some have thick Casuarina sticks
instead of bats, to hone their skills.
Winning willows turned vile villains?
Not only are Willow trees the innocent victims,
but also the wild and the unwild, bearing and barren ones.
Unknowingly, these players have treaded on many trees,
Bloodlessly bulldozing them to the ground and to the grave.
No Newton needs to tell us that nothing will happen off the bat?
Clearly, Cricket is the passion of the nation!
One day, some of them will become
Sachins and Dhonies!

Next Campus,
full of emerald trees,
teeming with lovely life!
Bats throng the tall trees
of the elegant woods.
Inversion without vision:
they hang for their lives!
Their invasion has enhanced
the bewitching beauty of the locale.
Afforestation has offered a safe haven
not only for these elsewhere unwanted  flying foxes,
but also for all breathing human beings,
by offering rejuvenating and refreshing oxygen.
Believe it or not, undoubtedly, batty is not bat’s behaviour!
Modern technology and knowledge have to rain in ecowisdom.
Let every tree in this enormous world become a Bodhi!
Hopefully these will not be visited by
Rathores and Bindras!

  1. I thank Dr.Irene for the following comment
"Well this one is interesting in the sense that i got to know some names in the field of crickets and that the bats are made of casuarina trees. i see scores of alliteration and this made me read out the poem loudly. there was such rhythm you neednt any instruments, really!"
